“ | Fort Louis Falls to Rebel Uprising! La Bastide Gazette By Cyril Le Corre The Compagnie Royale is rocked by news of another fort fallen to barbarous forces in the far east. Press secretary to the Honourable Sieur Legrand, Governor of the French Eastern Colonies, played down the rumours of extensive revolts, citing poor weather as the true culprit. “The Compagnie is, of course, keeping Fort Louis under control and flourishing. The native peoples emplyed under our new management are equally under control and flourising.” Honorable Sieur Legrand declined to comment as he was busy playing palm tennis. |

Trivia[]
Based on the outposts name as well as it's location, it is possible that the inspiration for Fort Louis' is Fort-Dauphin, a french colony in Southern Madagascar founded in 1643 by the French East India Company who built a fort there named in honor of the crown prince, the future Louis XIV of France. This is seemingly confirmed by artworks made for skull and bones, with Fort Louis being called Fort Dauphin
Fort-Dauphin was settled by around a hundred colonists, who found themselves involved in the local politics. The poor trade results (some ebony and little more was obtained) hardly justified the difficulties of the settlers, who suffered from tropical illnesses and other problems. After a conflict with the Antanosy people, the survivors were evacuated in 1674.
Several different Governors of Fort Dauphin sought to conquer Anosy, pillaging and then burning hundreds of villages, killing thousands of Malagasy, enslaving others and stealing tens of thousands of cattle. During this time French living there also fought for several of the Anosy kings. At this point, there were an estimated 10,000 Antanosy living near Fort Dauphin, with the total population of Anosy several times this number.
