The Maangodin is one of the Mission Bosses in Skull and Bones. It is a Ghostly Ship of the DMC that translated means "Moon Goddess". It is part of the "Oceans Apart" Mission that can be Triggered at The Oubliette. It only appears at Night
Lore[]
The Maangodin is a ghostly pirate ship stalking the open waters southeast of Port l'Hermine that only appears at night. The ghostly ship wields otherworldly weapons and is immune to all damage save for the three weak points on its broadsides and stern. This spectral warship is commandeered by the ghost Captain Hessel Lannert, who has been cursed to a living death.
According to in game entries, Captain Hessel Lannert was once a living Dutch captain who sought to make a name for himself in the ongoing war between the DMC and the Rempah Rebels through plundering, capturing and killing. However this changed following an encounter with an Unbound named Bulan, with the two falling in love and having a secret relationship.
Eventually this secret relationship was discovered by another Unbound, who reported them to the leader of the Unbound, Admiral Rahma. In retaliation, she sought a curse for the Dutchman, one that would condemn him hidup kematian (living death). She succeeded in cursing Captain Hessel Lannert and his ship, creating the Ghost Ship that now haunts the Indian Ocean.
Battle[]
The Maangodin starts with one big weak spot on each front side of the hull. Until one of them is destroyed the Maangodin is immune to damage. When a weak spot is destroyed, the Maangodin emits a scream that indicates that it can be damaged. The Maangodin uses rockets and Blue Spectre (Sea Fire). This results in a high output of Fire and Explosive damage. It is advised to stay in the back of the Maangodin as it can't really reach you in that position. After a certain time the Maangodin will disappear in a heavy Mist. After a few seconds it reappears in another spot. The amount of Fire damage can make the fight difficult for an unprepared Pirate.

We Take This to the Grave[]
“ | Bulan, my love, Being at sea, away from you, is misery. I count the days till I can hold you in my arms again. Once, all I cared about was making a name for myself in this war through plundering, capturing and killing. But meeting you has changed me. I look back on the man I used to be and am ashamed of my cruel ways. Victory cannot bring me the kind of joy your smile does. Yet, I must pretend in front of my crew and officers that my heart is still in this war. Perhaps we are fools to pursue this. I don’t know what I would do if anything happened to you… but nor can I keep away from you. Please, for my sake, be careful what you say and do around the Unbound. Trust no one, not even you friend Kartini. If the Rempah or Dutch discover our secret, they would skin us both alive. This is between us and us alone. Captain Hessel Lannert. |

An Enemy at Our Doorstep[]
“ | Admiral, I write to bring to your attention an urgent matter regarding a fellow Unbound and close friend of mine, Bulan. She had been missing training and neglecting her duties. When asked, she gave me flimsy excuses. Such behaviour is not like her, so one night, I followed her. I witnessed her meeting with a man late at night upon the shore. She called him Hessel. Captain Hessel. His ship bobbed in the distant dark — large, formidable and flying DMC flags. At first, I thought this some secret mission she couldn’t tell me about. But their intimate manner suggested otherwise. I just know this captain plans to use sweet Bulan to hurt the Rempah. I trust you will investigate this matter and deal with him accordingly. We must stand strong against the Dutch and their cunning ways. Should you need anything from me, I am yours to command. Lastly, I hope you will be merciful to Bulan. Knowing her, she must have been led astray by the Dutchman’s honeyed lies. Unbound Kartini. |

A Curse for a Cur[]
“ | Admiral, You asked and I deliver. To condemn an enemy to hidup kematian (living death), here is what you or your Unbound need to do: A lock of hair from the Dutchman’s lover, A drop of his blood in a stone’s crease, Toss them into the sea under a half-moon, And the soul shall never know peace. Lakukan Benar-Benar (do it right)! Otherwise, the curse will turn back on the caster instead, like pissing in the wind, ha! |
